Hooray for R I!! Having grown-up in No. Kingstown, I remember thinking that the old Wickford train station would be a great starting place to make my trek to Providence when I was anticipating commuting into the city to pursue my college career. This thought was passing through my mind as my H S class was returning from our class trip this time of year back in 1964! Mr. Perry had arranged for then rare stops at Wickford Junction by the then New Haven RailRoad to allow us to depart and return from our trip to Wash. and New York. ” Boy, what if this was as available to us as the interstate highway was being built to modernize our national transportation system?” When you are 17 possibility thinking just would not leave me alone!
Now, my riviting thought so long ago has come to life! When I return to RI this summer, I am anxious and thrilled to get on aboard! Ernie Colonna

Thanks for sharing your memories Ernie. The train should prove to be a welcome addition to Rhode Island’s transportation system.
