Many municipal comprehensive plans include the goal of encouraging community and economic revitalization in their urban and town centers to accommodate our state’s need for growth. However, a key challenge is a lack of suitable public infrastructure to attract private investment for such development, including adequate capacity for water and sewer as well as a variety of other utilities, innovative stormwater management, parking, lighting, sidewalks and transit infrastructure, among others.
This forum will examine resources and programs in Rhode Island and elsewhere to support infrastructure investments, including Massachusetts’ competitive, no-match state grant funding program to help cities and towns achieve the critical infrastructure necessary to support revitalization.
